The latest buzz that shook the technology market was the server outage faced by Amazon for a couple of days. The amazon cloud services that have been acquired by a host of social media websites like foursquare quora to portions of NY times and several silicon valley startups was a great setback, as the websites faced huge down times.
An enterprise cloud computing server is basically an online server that can be rented out (depending on the vendor's revenue model) to host a website, which saves on the CAPEX(capital expense) of acquiring the IT infrastructure and the OPEX (operating expense) to manage it over the years. But, this news has revealed the vulnerability of acquiring a cloud computing service for the various internet startups. The decision making now is a balance between security plus seamless service on one hand and the cost effectiveness on the other.
A better solution for acquiring cloud services for small internet startups can be :
1. To acquire a reliable enterprise solution from big boys like IBM, HP, Fujitsu...
2. There should be atleast 3 cloud servers from different vendors
- main server ( has to be a good vendor )
- alternate server
- backup server (can be compromised for bringing down the cost)
Because at the end of the day "Downtime is what brings your customers down !!"
